How did I approach to make an interview?

I have visited Nicaragua couple times because their culture is interesting to me. A friend of mine that knows a guy from there decided to help me with my interview.

Guilo is a student at St. Cloud State University in his last year of Electric Engineering. He lives in the dorms with three roommates. Guilo is very active, he likes to spend his free time at the gym some of the sports he plays are soccer, basketball and baseball.

Interview report:

The Interview went pretty well I learned things about his country that I didn't know about. He was a bit shy about sharing too much so I told him it was okay to keep it at his confortable level.

Country report :

The capital of Nicaragua is Managua and the main language spoken there is Spanish.
The sandinistas  began redistributing property and made huge progress in health and education. The sandinistas won the election in 1984. The US-sponsored counter- revolution which was when Washington arm and finances improved the trade sanctions and mined Nicaraguan  harbours.
Peace brought economic growth, lower inflation and lower employment. The hurricane Mitch in 1998 killed thousands and left 20% of Nicaragua's population homeless and caused billions of dollars worth of damage. Daniel Ortega won the elections in 2011 again after leading Nicaragua through revolution and civil war. Ortega has made wealth programs which also triggered hostility for the US administration.

G: Nice to meet you too.

Ah: Do you have time for a thirty to forty minutes interview?

G: Absolutely.

Ah: I would like to start by asking do you like the weather in St.Cloud? Please explain.

G: The weather in St. Cloud is just ok to me because I really dislike the cold winters in Minnesota.

Ah: What do you do for leisure?

G: During the week I like to stay in the library and during the weekend I enjoy spending time with my friends.

Ah: Oh that's interesting! What about your family

G: my father and my mother are both here in the U.S but we still have relatives back home in Nicaragua.

Ah: I am sorry to hear that. Could you please tell me about yourself?

G: I love being in school. I like to travel my plans are to keep traveling in the future. I’m hoping to move to a different state where the weather is not so cold.

Ah: We think the same about traveling because I’m the same way. My family travels a lot as well.

Ah: How often do you communicate with your family back at home?

G: I try to call them at least one or twice a week to keep in touch. However it does not always works out this way

Ah: Understandable I'm sure you have many other things that you have to do as well.

G: yes I do, including my work, school and visiting my family. One advice I want to put out there is that you should never forget about your people back home.

Ah: What is the biggest holiday in your country? Please explain about the holidays (Activities, Food, Date, Origin, and etc,)
G: Christmas is the biggest holiday people celebrate back home. Everyone gets together and spend days and days celebrating and is traditional to wear new clothes on Christmas day.

Ah: Wow, so everyone buys new clothes.

G: yes. Everyone, people save money from before to dress their best.

Ah: Tell me some important things from your culture?

Al: I’ve been here since I was and since we don’t have much family in the U.S we are clothes to each other.
Ah: What’s the biggest difference between the American culture and your culture?

G: There is a big difference between American culture and my culture. At a young age we are punished for misbehaving or being bad. Since I’m a guy a need to take care of my younger siblings specially my sister.
Ah: What are your goals for the future; after you graduate, what are you going to do?

G: I hope to find a great job and get married to a wonderful woman that has the same interests as mine.

Ah: Do you have any questions for me? I have asked so many of you!

G: No, I don’t .

Ah: What is the importance of family in your culture?

G: As I mentioned before family is very important to us. We like to spend a lot of time together and even some people don't move out of their parents home until they are way older.

Ah: What are some similarities between life in the U.S and in you country?

Al: is not a similarity but I think my country is becoming like the U.S that people are losing their interest in family time.

Ah: What is the favorite food in your country?

Al: We have a traditional food called “gallo pinto” beans and rice mixed, its usually accompanied with cheese, banana and
Ah: Do you prefer to live in here or in there?

G: I have adapted to this life style but it doesn't necessarily mean I prefer to live here. I would prefer to be back home with all my family and since not all of my family is there either. I don't have a preference.
